Tapestry Weaving with Hannah Rother-Gelder

Learn tapestry weaving from our expert tutor, Hannah Rother-Gelder in a friendly, workshop-style environment in these fortnightly classes. Tapestry weaving is a weft-based weaving where the warp is completely covered. The proposed image is marked on the weft as a guide using a cartoon (drawing) behind the warp as a further guide when weaving. Students will be guided through the process of this particular method of weaving.

Beginners welcome. All materials supplied. Partially supported by a Yarra Grant.

Tailored towards learners of all levels, particularly beginners, you will learn to confidently observe and draw a variety of subject matter with a variety of materials. Get ready for rapid-fire drawing in our express pose Sunday sessions. Our models create fast poses to keep you on your toes! With poses held from anywhere between 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, these life drawing sessions are a real challenge for seasoned artists as well as beginners.

Enjoy two of hours of life drawing in our beautiful light-filled studio with professional LMS models. With easels and tables available to use and paper to purchase, all you need to bring are your materials! 

Run by expert tutor, Deidre da Todi, she asks you to arrive promptly (10 minutes before is good) as late arrivals disrupt the flow of this class.

Enjoy two and a half hours of untutored life drawing in our beautiful light-filled studio with professional LMS models. With easels and tables available to use and paper to purchase, all you need to bring are your materials to draw poses ranging from quick to extended as the session progresses.

NB: As a courtesy to the model and other participants, and to limit disruptions, please arrive by 10.20 am to set up. Class begins promptly at 10.30 am. Anyone arriving late is required to wait for the next model break to enter the room. These occur every 20 minutes and the convenor will let you in.

Draw a professional model in our beautiful light-filled studio with easels and tables provided. Bring your own materials or buy paper from us. One pose will be held for the entire session, with breaks. This class is untutored and suitable for all levels.


Just a quick reminder for all our artistic visitors that due to OHS regulations we don’t allow the use of oil paint in any form including the water-soluble variety.

Also, our classes run based on bookings. So that we can keep track of class numbers and maintain our model booking, cancellations or changes to your booking will only be accepted with one week’s notice. Cancellations made after this time will not be eligible for a refund or rebooking. No-shows are not eligible for a refund or rebooking.

CHILDREN’S ART CLASSES with Hannah Rother-Gelder

This term, children will be exploring painting, collage, printmaking, and sculpture in a safe and explorative environment where their creativity is celebrated and shared.  Students will have the opportunity to experiment in a range of mediums using a variety of materials and create a portfolio of multidisciplinary work over the 6 week term.

This term, students will have the opportunity to choose between a range of projects that involve hand-stitching techniques. They will learn the basics of hand sewing but with a focus on using stitch as a means of creative expression. They will have the opportunity to create an imaginary creature or figure or learn the basics of Kantha stitching and create either a needle holder or a Kantha stitched purse or bag.
